hot fun, summer in the city

July 2, 2001

Summer in the city can be miserable. last week, particularly was brutal. While it's 95 degrees out, asphalt makes it worse. Then there's the subway-- at least 110. This is why the rich used to flee to the Catskills for the summer. Now we just have air conditioning, the best invention of the twentieth century. Of course, after getting a haircut, my head feels about 10 degrees cooler.
