Blog in the Big City

December 3, 2002

John Hiler's new Cityblog: New York could become very cool.

Some improvements could catapult from a good concept to truly badass:

  1. A music section.

  2. More collaboration. To be more comprehensive, the site needs more bloggers. While some posters will gravitate towards certain types of events, each section can not be limited to one person's opinion. But each post should be signed by its poster, so that users can get to know the personalities and preferences of the posters. While the site needs to have a voice, it has to be the sum of a number of unique voices.

  3. Rankings. In addition to the event posters, other users could note what events look especially interesting. Then, as readers become familiar with the various posters, readers can also rank the quality of the posters, so that events suggested by posters who I like will have a higher default ranking than events suggested by posters who have different tastes than I.

  4. An iCal format calendar to which users can subscribe.

Speaking of NYC events, tomorrow night,Modern Groove Syndicate is playing at the Lion's Den. 11 PM. See you there.
